🔥 Wildfires Force Cenovus to Scale Back Staff at Foster Creek
Wildfires in northern Alberta have led Cenovus Energy to reduce non-essential staff at its Foster Creek facility near the Bonnyville–Cold Lake region. The fire, now over 7,200 hectares, is part of a wider outbreak that has shut down some oil and gas operations and triggered evacuations, including in Swan Hills and parts of Chipewyan Lake. Alberta officials are closely monitoring shifting winds that could worsen the situation. Cenovus says the staffing changes are precautionary as it continues to assess risks. Wildfires are also prompting emergency measures in Manitoba due to threats to communities and infrastructure.

☀️ Cold Lake First Nations to Lead $48M Solar Project in Alberta
Cold Lake First Nations (CLFN) is taking majority ownership of a new 19.8 MW solar project in Duchess, Alberta, backed by $48.1 million in financing. The Canada Infrastructure Bank, Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation, Selkirk Advisory Group, and Equitable Life of Canada are providing funding for the Duchess Solar project, which will power 7,000 homes using nearly 50,000 solar panels. The initiative will create over 100 construction jobs and provide long-term economic benefits to CLFN through clean energy revenue, reinvested into community development. The project highlights Indigenous leadership in sustainable infrastructure.
