🚀 F-35 Fighter Jet Project Draws 220+ to Cold Lake Recruitment Event
More than 220 contractors and service providers packed into Cold Lake’s Energy Centre on May 27 for a recruitment and info event tied to the multi-billion-dollar Future Fighter Capability Project. Hosted by the Cold Lake Chamber of Commerce, the session connected businesses to upcoming work supporting the F-35 fighter jet rollout at 4 Wing Cold Lake. Presentations covered security clearances, approval processes, and job scopes, with an emphasis on keeping contracts local to boost regional employment.

🚨 4 Wing Cold Lake to Run Emergency Response Exercise June 2
4 Wing Cold Lake will conduct an emergency response training exercise on June 2, simulating an on-base emergency. From 9:00 a.m. to noon, access to the base will be controlled, and ID checks will occur at the main gate. Armed personnel (with no live ammunition) will be present, and the exercise will include fire, health, and military police services. While the scenario may cause minor service delays and increased noise, it poses no danger to the public. The base emphasizes this is essential preparedness training for both members and the broader Lakeland community.

🏠 Cold Lake Sets 2025 Property Tax Rates with 4.58% Residential Increase
Cold Lake City Council has approved a 4.58% average residential property tax increase for 2025, with new rates aimed at funding the city’s $50 million operational budget. Vacant properties will face a 10% higher tax rate, though rebates are available if listed for sale. The move is expected to generate $24.54 million in municipal taxes. Education and seniors' requisitions will also rise. Mayor Craig Copeland noted inflation’s continued impact on both household and municipal budgets. Tax notices will be mailed by May 30, with a payment deadline of June 30. Alternative delivery plans are in place due to a possible Canada Post strike.
