🥞 Seniors Week Kicks Off with Pancake Breakfast & Community Spirit
Cold Lake and District FCSS kicked off Seniors Week on June 2 with a free pancake breakfast, bringing dozens of seniors together to reconnect, celebrate, and learn about local resources. The event launched a full week of activities—from safety workshops to tech tutorials—organized by various community groups to honour seniors and support their continued engagement. Informational displays focused on elder abuse awareness and emergency preparedness were also featured. FCSS praised seniors as the “backbone of the community,” highlighting their vital role in volunteering and lifelong learning.

📈 More Jobs, More Job Seekers: May Sees Mixed Employment Trends in Cold Lake Area
Employment rose in the Wood Buffalo–Cold Lake region in May, with the employment rate increasing to 69.5%. However, unemployment also edged up to 6.3% as more people entered the job market, expanding the labour force by 1,400 people. Full-time jobs increased, while part-time roles declined. Gains were seen in sectors like trades, sales, public administration, and oil and gas. However, job losses hit food services, construction, and business support sectors. Alberta’s overall unemployment rose slightly to 7.4%, with Cold Lake's region staying below the provincial average but reflecting broader national trends.

🎠 RCMP Musical Ride Gallops into Cold Lake & St. Paul This July
The iconic RCMP Musical Ride Tour is making rare stops in St. Paul and Cold Lake this summer, performing on July 23 and 24 respectively. Featuring up to 32 Mounties and their horses, the show dazzles with choreographed drills set to music. Held by the local Ag Societies, the event offers both a patriotic spectacle and a fundraising opportunity for community groups. As one of only 20 Alberta communities chosen—and with the tour visiting each province just once every four years—it’s a must-see celebration of Canadian tradition and pride.
