Cold Lake Medical Clinic Set for Major Expansion to Boost Local Healthcare Access

The City of Cold Lake is advancing plans to expand and renovate the Cold Lake Medical Clinic, aiming to improve physician recruitment, retention, and healthcare access. The project has moved into the development stage, with new designs featuring expanded space, better accessibility, and “doctor condos” to support a growing number of physicians. The clinic, located near the hospital, plays a vital role in local healthcare delivery. Due to space constraints and community demand, the City plans to build a new facility before renovating the current one. A construction tender is expected in the coming months.

Conservative Incumbents Retain Seats in Lakeland and Fort McMurray-Cold Lake Ridings

Conservative MPs Shannon Stubbs (Lakeland) and Laila Goodridge (Fort McMurray–Cold Lake) have secured re-election, each earning over 80% of the vote. Elections Canada reported delays in finalizing results due to high turnout and special ballots, but preliminary counts resumed on April 29. In Lakeland, voter turnout was nearly 67%, while Fort McMurray–Cold Lake saw about 61%. Liberal candidates placed second in both ridings, with Barry Milaney and Kaitlyn Staines receiving 11.9% and 14.2% of the vote, respectively.

Cold Lake Man Beats Stage 4 Cancer, Shares Message of Hope

Cold Lake resident Wayne Houle was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer in 2021, which later spread to his lungs and brain. Despite a seven-month prognosis, he joined a clinical trial and became one of the first patients to receive a new immunotherapy treatment. Houle credits a positive mindset, medical advances, and support from family and doctors for his recovery. Today, he’s cancer-free and shares his story to inspire others, reminding them to “be a warrior” and stay hopeful in their own battles.
