Cold Lake City Council will once again participate in the 2025 Ronald McDonald House Lakeland Charity Golf Classic, approving a $600 team entry fee at their May 13 meeting. The event, set for June 14 at the Cold Lake Golf & Winter Club, raises funds to support families with children receiving medical care in Edmonton. The City’s contribution comes from the Council Goodwill budget, continuing their annual tradition of supporting the cause. Ronald McDonald House Charities provides vital accommodations and services to families during challenging medical journeys.

Cold Lake First Nations Opposes Alberta’s Bill 54 Over Sovereignty Concerns
Cold Lake First Nations (CLFN) has publicly opposed Alberta’s proposed Bill 54, which would lower the threshold for citizen-led referendums, potentially enabling a vote on provincial separation from Canada in 2026. CLFN asserts that such a move threatens their inherent rights and Treaty 6 obligations, emphasizing that their sovereignty and connection to ancestral lands remain intact. Chief Kelsey Jacko described the bill as “reckless” and “deeply disrespectful,” reaffirming that CLFN never surrendered their rights or title and will continue to honor their sacred treaties.
