Cold Lake Renews Property Tax Relief Program for Low-Income Seniors
Cold Lake is continuing its Seniors Rebate Program, which offers a $100 property tax credit to low-income senior homeowners. Thanks to a renewed data-sharing agreement with the province, eligible seniors who receive the Alberta Seniors Benefit are automatically enrolled—no application required. Originally launched in 2007, the program has expanded in recent years, helping 62 seniors in both 2023 and 2024. The city has budgeted $6,500 for 2025 to keep the support going.

Welding Spark Triggers Fire Behind Cold Lake Ag Grounds
A fire broke out behind the Cold Lake Agricultural Society grounds after a welding spark ignited nearby materials, sending thick smoke into the air. Though workers tried to douse the flames with water, the fire escalated when a tractor tire caught fire. Cold Lake Fire-Rescue quickly responded with three units and nine firefighters, bringing the blaze under control without injuries. Officials remind residents of the heightened fire risk due to warm, dry weather, with restrictions currently in place in nearby municipalities.

City Supports John Howard Society Grant with Special Meeting
The City of Cold Lake held a special council meeting on April 29 to approve a letter of support for the John Howard Society’s grant application to the Alberta government. With limited time given for supporting documents, Mayor Craig Copeland said the city secured a deadline extension to ensure the society received the necessary backing. The letter was finalized and submitted in time, emphasizing the city’s commitment to supporting essential community services.
